Comment l’architecture peut-elle révéler l'empreinte environnementale de l’Homme sur un paysage donné ?
Le projet envisage de capturer l’essence de la plage d’Hermanville-sur-Mer en 2025 – tel un fragment conservé dans une éprouvette, et dont l’ouverture serait prévue dans vingt, cinquante ou cent ans.
Majoritairement constitué de sable, ce prélèvement porte toutefois l’empreinte indélébile de l’Homme, à travers les traces tangibles de son passage : déchets, résidus, vestiges… Une fois extraits in situ, ces éléments constituent la matière première de la cabine.
Le défi majeur réside dans la recherche d’une technique constructive capable de solidifier cette matière granuleuse et fragile. S’inspirant du superadobe, la solution retenue consiste à «conditionner» les échantillons de sable où l’enveloppe structure l’informe et préserve son essence brute, sans aucune transformation.
Si ce n’est un défi constructif, cette cabine de plage est un acte d’engagement. Celui de faire face aux enjeux écologiques de notre temps en choisissant de ne pas détourner le regard sur la réalité et d’utiliser ce que la nature crée et ce que l’Homme laisse.
En somme, une architecture issue de la beauté brute des éléments naturels et des traces d’une humanité parfois insouciante : le mélange de l’authentique et du jetable.
Le projet est finaliste du Concours international des cabines de plage organisé par la métropole Caen Normandie, à l’occasion du Millénaire de la ville en 2025.
How can architecture reveal the human imprint on a given environment?
The project aims to capture the very essence of the beach at Hermanville-sur-Mer in 2025 – a suspended instant, as if a fragment were preserved in a test tube, with its opening potentially occurring in twenty, fifty, or one hundred years.
This sample, predominantly made of sand, will bear the indelible mark of humanity through the tangible traces of its passage: waste, residues, remnants... Once extracted, these elements will form the raw material for the cabin.
The main challenge lies in finding a construction technique capable of solidifying this granular and fragile material. The chosen solution is to "seal" the sand samples, inspired by superadobe, where the envelope structures the formless and preserves its raw essence without transformation.
If not a construction challenge, this beach cabin is an act of commitment.
It confronts the ecological issues of our time by choosing not to look away from reality, using what nature creates and what humanity leaves behind. In short, an architecture born from the raw beauty of natural elements and the traces of a sometimes careless humanity: a blend of the authentic and the disposable.
The project is a finalist in the International Beach Cabins Competition organized by the Metropole for the Millennial celebration of the city of Caen.
